MS 365 – Word – Entry Point Not Found

You will receive this error when opening word, then you need to take the following steps:


0. Make sure all office apps are closed before starting

1.Download office deployment tool:

https://download.microsoft.com/download/6c1eeb25-cf8b-41d9-8d0d-cc1dbc032140/officedeploymenttool_19029-20278.exe

2.Run the EXE and create a folder C:\ODT and extract the files there

3.Open Notepad and add the following and save the file under C:\ODT\ called config.xml:

<Configuration>

<Updates Enabled="TRUE" TargetVersion="16.0.19231.20216" />

</Configuration>

4. run this command.  setup.exe /configure config.xml        It will look like nothing happened but that is correct

5. Open any office app and check for updates  (please make sure all other office apps are closed from TaskManager>Details)

6. Once done you can check in control panel and the version should now show 16.0.19231.20216 and Word should open correctly.

7. Disable updates in office to ensure the broken version does not download again and inform the client to enable it again when Microsoft releases the next update
