Microsoft rolled out a security update this week (April 2026) that changes how Windows handles RDP files. You may start seeing a new warning dialog when connecting to VMs (virtual machines) through V2 Cloud Desktop App, with a banner saying "Caution: Unknown remote connection" and the publisher listed as "Unknown."
This doesn't mean anything is wrong or compromised. Microsoft added this dialog to protect against phishing attacks that use malicious RDP files. Since V2 Cloud Desktop App generates connection files on the fly, they aren't digitally signed yet, which triggers the new warning.
What we're doing about it:
We're rolling out an update that will have our backend digitally sign every RDP file before it reaches your machine. Once that's in place, the warning will either disappear entirely or show our verified publisher name instead.
What you can do right now:
You can safely click through the warning when connecting to your usual VMs — the connections themselves haven't changed. If your IT team wants to suppress the dialog in the meantime, we can provide the registry key or GPO setting to temporarily revert to the old behavior while we ship the fix.
We expect the signed version to be ready in the next V2 Cloud App update.
Until then you can use it normally by selecting the following options:
- Clipboard
- Drives
- Printers
- Audio/microphone
