Freeing up storage on a Windows system involves a combination of deleting unnecessary files, uninstalling unused programs, and optimizing system settings.
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you with the process:
- Disk Cleanup: Use the built-in Disk Cleanup tool to remove temporary files, system cache, and other unnecessary files. Press the Windows key, type "Disk Cleanup," and select the app. Choose the drive you want to clean (usually the system drive, which is C:). Select the types of files you want to delete and click "OK."
- Uninstall Unused Programs: Go to "Settings" > "Apps" or "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel. Review the list of installed programs and uninstall those you no longer need.
- Delete Large Files and Folders: Manually check your storage for large files and folders you no longer require, such as old videos, downloads, or backups. You can sort files by size in File Explorer for easier identification.
- Remove Windows Update Files: In Disk Cleanup, click on "Clean up system files." Check "Windows Update Cleanup" and any other relevant items to remove older Windows update files.
- Clear Browser Cache: Browsers store temporary files and cache data. Clear these by going into your browser's settings.
- Empty Recycle Bin: Make sure to empty your Recycle Bin to permanently delete files you've previously deleted.
- Use Storage Sense: Windows has a feature called Storage Sense that can automatically free up space by removing temporary files and old versions of Windows.
- Move Files to External Storage: If you have large files that you don't frequently access, consider moving them to an external hard drive or cloud storage.
- Disable Hibernation: If you don't use hibernation, you can disable it to recover the space used by the hibernation file. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type: powercfg /hibernate off.
- Clean Up System Restore Points: If you have a lot of system restore points, they can take up significant space. You can adjust the amount of space allocated to system restore points or delete older ones.
- Check for Large Applications: Some applications, especially multimedia software, can take up a lot of space. Consider if you need these or if there are more lightweight alternatives.
- Use External Storage: Move large media files like photos, videos, and music to external storage devices to free up space on your main drive.
- Increase disk space on your Cloud Computer: If there is nothing to delete from your disk drive, you can increase the available disk space on your Cloud Computer by following this tutorial:
https://v2cloud.com/tutorials/increase-disk-space-on-your-cloud-computer
This process required a reboot of the Cloud computer and the Cloud computer will be unavailable for 1-2 hours
Note: It is not possible to decrease the size once you resize your disk, so be careful not to over-allocate space if not needed.
- Add a new disk to your Cloud Computer: If you need to back up data or store it on a separate drive, you can add a new disk to your Cloud Computer by following this tutorial:
https://v2cloud.com/tutorials/add-a-new-disk-to-your-cloud-computer
This process required a reboot of the Cloud computer and the Cloud computer will be unavailable for 1-2 hours
Important: You can resize or add disk space up to 300 GB per disk. For resizing or adding disk space beyond 300 GB, please contact our support team, as it must be done from our end.
Remember to always exercise caution when deleting files, especially if you're unsure of their importance. It's also a good practice to create a backup of important data before performing any major cleaning operations.
